چکیده

Pediatric patients, especially the youngest, have objective difficulties in explaining the source and characteristics of their physical discomfort. This is even more important in bladder conditions, which are sometimes characterized by hematuria in absence of other symptoms or pain. Thus, it is crucial for the physician to have a clear view of all possible problems affecting children; moreover, understanding the inheritance of such diseases is often a major help during diagnosis. In the present Special Issue, the most frequent causes of heritable bladder malfunctions are analyzed.

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) Gene Promoter Polymorphisms and Disease Progression in North Indian Cohort with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is characterized by a significant phenotypic variability in progression of the disease. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has been reported to play a major role in renal pathophysiology. The aim of the present case-control study was to evaluate the association of two promoter polymorphisms (-2578C>A and -1154G>A) of VEGF gene and ADPK...

Evaluation of MicroRNA-99a and MicroRNA-205 Expression Levels in Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer is the second most common cancer in the genitourinary tract, showing often recurrence and progresse into invasive states. Epigenetic changes, such as microRNA alteration are involved in bladder cancer tumorigenesis through a variety of signaling pathways. The epigenetic state depends on geographic and lifestyle conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression l...

Evaluation of miR-141, miR-200c, miR-30b Expression and Clinicopathological Features of Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer (BC) ranks the second most common genitourinary tract malignant tumor with high mortality and 70% recurrence rate worldwide. MiRNAs expression has noticeable role in bladder tumorigenesis. The purpose of this study was to assess miR-200c, miR-30b and miR-141 in tissue samples of patients with BC and healthy adjacent tissue samples and their association with muscle invasion, grade...

Evaluating the Expression of Oct4 as a Prognostic Tumor Marker in Bladder Cancer

Objective(s)The key transcriptional regulator Oct4 is one of the self-renewal and differentiation-related factors in cancer stem cells, where it maintains "stemness" state. Cancer stem cells have been identified in a variety of solid malignancies. They are a small population of tumor cells with stem cell characteristics, which are a likely cause of relapse in cancer patients. Due to high incide...
